Glenview, IL
Galyan’s sixth store in the Chicago area features an architectural and historical twist. The Glenview, Ill., store incorporates facades that remain from a historic building at the former Glenview Naval Air Station. Several walls and a lookout tower are blended into the Galyan’s design concept that, in the end, still feels like a modern upscale retail space.
The two-story, 80,000-square-foot location has a large atrium and skylight, along with a 45-foot climbing wall, putting green and archery range. The store has 40 specialty departments ranging from traditional sports equipment and apparel such as baseball, basketball, football and soccer, to outdoor and adventure sports such as hunting, fishing, snowboarding and mountain biking.
The project was designed on a fast-track basis with the foundation and structural design packages completed early to enable the contractor to begin construction before the onset of winter. Shive-Hattery provided total design services, from schematic design through construction.
