Von Maur Glenview

Von Maur Glenview

Glenview, IL

An aviation theme drove the design of this Von Maur store because of the historic nature of The Glen Town Center site, which was formerly the Glenview Naval Air Station. Shive-Hattery provided architectural and engineering design and construction services for a new two-story, 164,000-square-foot department store. The architectural design of the atrium gives customers a sense of what it was like to see a 1940s Stearman flying through the air. The biplane is hung at an angle to create a sense of movement and below a sky-blue dome that enhances the effect. The store reflects a classic, nostalgic elegance with an aviation theme accented by soft fabric coverings and antique furniture. In keeping with Von Maur tradition and to accompany the shopping experience, customers may enjoy the ambiance created by the pianist at the grand piano while viewing the Stearman aircraft.

The new Von Maur store is located adjacent to the historic Hangar One building, which is being renovated to house multiple retail tenants. There will be a parking ramp to the north of the store with second floor access to Von Maur via a pedestrian bridge.

The Glen redevelopment is a 1,121 acres mixed-use district with retail space, offices, private residences and public amenities including parks, a lake, two golf courses and a Metra Station.
