The LA Fitness building was the previous site of a Builders Square which itself was a converted Kmart store designed by Arcline Associates in 1991. The original building was approximately 80,000 square feet with an outdoor garden center. The design was a precast panel facade with steel framed roof structure.
3D scanning was used to verify the existing structural for record drawings. Using this technology saved both time and money and allowed the project to begin sooner. The western half of the building, which included the outdoor garden center, was demolished for expansion of the parking lot. The west precast wall panels on the existing building were reused to close up the reduced building. The final product was an LA Fitness that was 40,000 square feet and included an indoor pool.
