Hobby Lobby Plaza Redesign

Hobby Lobby Plaza Redesign

Lombard, IL

This project involved renovation of Hobby Lobby Plaza. The center was 20 years old and needed to be updated to compete with newer retail facilities in the area. A cost-effective update to the architecture and facade made the building more attractive from the street, as well as more enticing to new tenants.

Updating the exterior of the center included the redesign of the entire facade to accommodate the needs of a new tenant, Hobby Lobby. Masonry was added and the EIFS was redone to give the illusion of a concrete finish. New lighting, signage and canopies were added as well. The monument sign near the street was redesigned to match the surrounding neighborhood.

Updating the interior of the center included demising the walls and creating five tenant spaces out of the original spaces that belonged to Sports Authority, Famous Footwear, and Fruitful Yield. It was necessary to coordinate the interior work to correlate with the facade refinish. Shive-Hattery was also responsible for all the interior tenant work.

The resulting redesign to the interior and exterior of this building enabled it to successfully compete with new buildings in the area. The developer was able to attract tenants from other centers in the area and achieve 100% occupancy. Tenants include Hobby Lobby, Harbor Freight Tools, Xsport Fitness, Fruitful Yield Health Foods and Dollar General.
