Cedar Rapids, IA
The Cedar Rapids Community School District wanted to renovate the 57-year-old Kingston Stadium used by area schools for football, track, soccer, bands and other community events. Shive-Hattery designed improvements that included new sports lighting, new electrical distribution, new topping over the concrete stands and structural improvements, new public restrooms, renovation of the existing restrooms and new synthetic turf on the football field. Services included civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering; landscape architecture and architectural design.
The completion of these improvements provides the stadium with:
- Restored concrete that will provide decades of continuous service
- Electrical upgrades that double the light output on the track and field and reduce light spillage to the surrounding neighborhood
- New restrooms that provide safe handicapped accessible facilities
- Synthetic turf that enables the district to provide a consistently safe, multi-purpose playing surface which allows for a greater number of events.
