A 4,000-square-foot addition to this school was part of the $52.7 million 2000 Bond Referendum Program.
The new media center is located at the heart of the school, accessible to the students and yet available for use by the community. The Pierce building encourages environmental education, so it was natural to connect this new space to the surrounding environment.
The ceiling tile patterns resemble clouds, the textured interior masonry materials evoke warmth, and large view windows connect the space to the outdoors where Iowa’s changing seasons can be viewed firsthand.
The large open room is designed for flexibility, allowing media center arrangements to change over time. In addition, the space provides a much-needed faculty meeting area, complete with audio-visual capabilities.
