The University was slated to host the Big Ten Outdoor Track Meet in spring 2009 at its Cretzmeyer Outdoor Track. Since the last facility renovation in 1996, the track surface had passed its expected life and improvements were needed to meet NCAA field event requirements.
Shive-Hattery designed a facility upgrade that included track resurfacing with a new urethane overlay; dual runways and pits for long and triple jump and for pole vault; two discus throwing areas and one javelin throwing area. A new chute area was added on the east side for short sprint event practice. New site amenities include chain link fence, concrete perimeter walkway around the complex, irrigation system and a trench drain system around the inside of the track.
