Community Medical Services Clinic

Community Medical Services Clinic

Muscatine, IA

Through the collaboration between Shive-Hattery; the developer, Liberty Growth; and the University of Iowa Community Medical Services, a new medical clinic prototype plan was designed that would implement a new primary care delivery model. The new system will improve patient privacy, reduce waiting time and increase patient satisfaction while at the same time increasing efficiency.

The Muscatine Clinic for the University of Iowa Community Medical Services (CMS) is the second clinic developed for this client using their new primary care delivery model.

The 16,120 square foot facility includes a Specialty Clinic, a Renal Dialysis Clinic, and an Oncology Clinic. The Specialty Clinic was modeled upon the prototype developed by Shive-Hattery of the client’s River Crossing Clinic. The Renal Dialysis Clinic is intended as a replacement facility for CMS’s existing dialysis center in Muscatine. This Clinic is unique in its serpentine layout which allows nursing staff to closely monitor patients during their four to six hour treatment three times a week while allowing the patients the benefit of viewing the exterior through floor to ceiling windows looking out to a natural wooded area. Future expansion is planned into the facility by means of converting the Oncology Clinic into an additional six chairs for dialysis and the site was developed with future additions in mind. The project also incorporates sustainable design through the use of a geo-thermal HVAC system.
