Shive-Hattery provided architectural and engineering services for the design of a new Independent Living addition at Oaknoll's current facility. A new entry and dining area in the addition gives a more formal and welcoming entrance to the facility. The 136,000 square foot addition has 52 apartments and includes a swimming pool, spa, fitness area and movie theatre for the residents. It also provides new administrative, maintenance, and dietary areas for the Oaknoll staff.
A green roof system was incorporated into the project to help control storm water runoff and to accentuate views from upper level apartments. Existing roofs in the facility were evaluated to install green roof systems for both environmental, aesthetic and maintenance reasons.
Vacated portions of the existing building were remodeled to add to Oaknoll's Assisted Living and Long Term Care services and provide dementia care areas for the facility. The project's $20 million budget also included providing additional on-site parking through new parking structures connected to both the new and existing buildings. The style of this addition reflects Oaknoll's goal to provide peaceful and beautiful accommodations in a residential atmosphere.
