A Danisco Division, Genencor is among the largest developers and manufacturers of industrial enzymes and the second largest biotechnology company in the world. Shive-Hattery provided design services for their new Applied Innovation Center located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The $4.6 million project is an approximately 20,000 square foot Office and Training Center addition to the east side of the existing facility and adjacent to the existing office area.
The project also included the remodel of approximately 7,000 square feet of existing office area. Shive-Hattery services included building design, building systems design (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and electrical systems) and related building site work.
Other phases of the project included:
- Office Addition - A new plant management team office consisting of a third floor addition to the newly constructed Fermentation Building addition, also designed by Shive-Hattery. The addition is approximately 2,130 square feet and is located on the northeast corner of the Fermentation Building addition.
- Fermentation Building Addition - A two-floor addition housing three fermentation tanks and support equipment. There is also a two-level office on the second floor of the addition.
- Utility Building Addition - Single-floor addition on the east side of the building. Services included foundation design for a proposed cooling tower.
- Office Remodel - Demolition of main offices and break room area. The remodeled office area includes a new multi-purpose area, restrooms, conference room and IT room.
- Site Improvements - A 35,000 square foot area on the south side of the main plant was paved for truck staging and unloading. Work included storm water on-site detention, new sidewalk along the entire length of the property on two sides.
