Marshalltown, IA
Alliant Energy needed a new Technical Training Center for its subsidiary, Interstate Power and Light Company (IP&L). The training center is primarily for training of IP&L gas and electric apprentices. The six-acre site has a 7,835 square-foot training facility, a 3,610 square-foot vehicle storage and welding training shop and open land for outdoor training.
The training facility includes three classrooms, three shops, a break/training room, restrooms and office area. The other building serves as storage of vehicles, heavy equipment and materials utilized for training. It also has a welding shop for bench welding and field welding training. The facility includes HVAC and lighting control systems so the building can be monitored and operated remotely.
The facility was awarded LEED Gold level certification in the USGBC's green building rating system. This is the first project completely designed by Shive-Hattery to receive this rating.
